Latest Trends in Android & Mobile Technology 2017

There was a time almost 10 to 12 years ago, we use to think what will be the future, how thing will be in the future and after seeing some Si-fi movies like star wars we use to think cars will fly and humans will be travelling at the speed of light. But talking on a practical terms do we really think that is the desired feature. I have believe we are already in the future. And Smart phones have become an integral part of this future. Who would have imagined that we can almost manage each and every task on a piece of small tile like device which fits into our hand and can be carried anywhere in the world.

Smart phones have really made it possible to call this era as the age of information on fingertips. Currently, 2.1 Billion people worldwide own a Smartphone. And Adult aged 25 plus use their smart phones 264 times a day and including texting and calling and the people between 15 to 24 spend around   378 times every day that means if the average sleeping time of these people is around 10 hours, then they are doing some or the other smartphone activity every other minute.

So today I am going to spread some light on the latest trends in Android and mobile technology we will be seeing in 2017-

1. Instant Apps

Apps are known be to faster and seamless and give a very beautiful user experience. But only problem with them is they occupy a permanent space on the device and also take time to download and install, when in some of the cases the app is required only once.

But now this year Google will be launching a new feature call “Instant Apps”, which are not to be installed and can be directly used when required. They won’t occupy a permanent storage space and will be limited to 4 Mb only.

This apps can be launched on a button click and can be used instead of launching a web page like search, social media, messaging, and other deep links without them needing to install your app first.

Initially this apps will only work on/above Android 7.0 Nougat but Google is planning to give support till Android 4.1 Jelly bean

2. Artificial Intelligence

It is hard to impress modern people with artificial intelligence. However, they only see the tip of the iceberg. We use voice assistants and chatbots on our mobile devices. Game developers are trying to add more and more AI into their games to make gamers feel as if they are in a real world.

What is even more fantastic computers with artificial intelligence like IBM Watson can solve some tasks that are impossible for a human mind. In addition, many people dream of intelligent robots to assist in daily life so the development of artificial intelligence is moving forward very fast.

At least, such robots already exist, but only in the form of the mentioned virtual voice assistants that we will talk about here.

Last year Google promised to continue the integration of its new supporter Google Assistant into upcoming Android devices. Improved features and intellectual skills are the main advantages of the upgraded assistant.

Unlike Google Now, Okay Google command turned out to be more useful:

  • The AI-based assistant is able to converse with the user, clarify necessary information, and act as a smart chat bot.
  • The bot is able to recognize even complicated commands. As developers promise, this function will be improved in the course of time.
  • Besides, the virtual assistant allows you to switch off the light in your home through Google Home, book a table in a restaurant etc.

Apps developers are also able to add other commands to Google Assistant. And, by the way, the quality of artificial intelligence in Android has risen up to 93.9% in 2016 from 89.6% in 2014.

  •  Apart from this, Google Play search will also have smart features. The neural network will use machine learning to find the most relevant    results according to your queries even if you don't know what exactly you need. Google Play will analyze word or collocation input, proposing results based on previous queries. Now, this smart search is functioning in beta-testing mode, and it is steadily improving itself.

3. Swift

Swift is the next-gen programming language for iOS developers. Most mobile-app developers confirm that it is much easier than Objective-C. Although Swift isn't going to replace Objective-C anytime soon, it will gain a lot of attention in 2017 . With the release of Swift 2 which offers a host of new, developer-friendly features, this new programming language is certainly to stay.

Here's how Swift runs ahead in the race with other programming languages:

Hence, Swift is also going to stay for a long time as well.

There is a news from Google that they will be integrating Swift into Android apart from java and other cross platform languages.

4. Beacons & Location Based Services Are on the Rise

Integrated location-based service applications like Apple’s iBeacons and Google Beacon are popular. Wi-Fi usage will no longer be limited to hotels, restaurants, retail outlets, or in health-care. The usage of applications with Wi-Fi support is going to rise beyond these traditional requirements will help people with relevant location-based information. Here's how Beacon works:

This advanced technology gives a major scope to personalized app marketing and expected to rise in 2017 considering one of the major mobile app trends.

5. AR &VR

If you are a little aware of modern mobile app development trends, then Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) apps are nothing new to you. In 2016, AR and VR  have been revolutionary in gaming and entertainment industry. Games like Pokemon Go, iOnRoadSky Siege and myNav are good examples of AR games whereas,  VR devices like Samsung Gear VRGoogle Cardboard and Oculus Rift are gaining popularity.

According to a research from Digi-Capital, here is the expected market for AR and VR software in upcoming years:

Although it is not expected that VR will show a rapid growth, however, AR application development will certainly near its peak by the time 2017 ends. Therefore, tighten your seat belts for some AR and VR magic in the coming year.

Conclusion:

These are some of the trends we will be seeing in 2017.But there is no common public opinion regarding each trend since all of them are very different. When all these trends become completely available, it will be possible to make a correct unbiased assessment. Especially when many factors influencing the development of one trend or another will become obvious.

But the only thing we can say is Android and other mobile technologies are the future and will be trending for long time.
